Natalie Nichols was born in Houston, TX in 1977. A little more than a year later, her mother left her with her father. She was raised by a single dad who did the very best that he could. Her father was a manual laborer, working in Air Conditioning and heating. There were many times that he would take her with him, as a baby, to work on a client's air conditioner. She was always sure to make a mess in the customer's home for her father to clean up after he had finished his work. When she was 6 years old, she introduced her dad to one of the mothers that came to pick up her children at daycare. A very short time later, Natalie's matchmaking skills paid off and her dad married the mother of her friends from daycare. They become a blended family after a whirlwind romance, and almost out of necessity: Natalie needed a mother, and her new siblings needed a good father figure in their lives.
Natalie attended primary school in the Aldine Independent School District. Her parents decided to leave the big city life and raise their children in small-town America. They moved, when she was in 5th grade, to Point Blank, TX, a town of roughly 600 residents at the time. She then went to school in Coldspring, TX. She was a member of the National Jr. Honor Society in Junior High and represented her school in the national spelling bee in Houston. She went on to become a Captain on the Jones High School Trojanette drill team, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and was in the top 10 in her graduating class. Natalie, through a series of uncharacteristically bad choices, became a teen pregnancy statistic. She married her high school boyfriend when she was 8 months pregnant, and gave birth one month before she turned 18. She ended up graduating via correspondence courses when she found breastfeeding a newborn to be incompatible with high school attendance. Natalie ultimately grew up with her first born son. She had a rocky marriage, mostly due to the age and immaturity of both parties. Her young husband joined the Army as an infantryman and the Army took the trio to Ft. Hood, TX. They welcomed a second son into the world, and were then transferred to Schweinfurt, Germany, where they spent 3 years. They were finally transferred to Ft. Benning, GA, where they decided that they had not gone according to God's plan for their lives so many years before, and parted ways, ultimately leading Natalie back to Texas. Natalie believes that there is a plan for each of our lives, and if we try to live our lives contrary to that plan, God will use our choices as learning tools. Natalie regrets that she didn't make the right choices early in her life, but is thankful for the life lessons that those choices afforded her, and she wouldn't trade her children for anything.
Nichols met her husband, and soul mate, Chet, on Match.com, oddly enough. She and Chet planned to begin their lives as husband and wife in Jamaica, but Chet's mother, Bebe Nichols--long time employee of Commercial National Bank, was in the late stages of breast cancer. They changed plans quickly and God allowed Bebe to attend their small wedding at Sherwood Chapel, here in Texarkana, TX. Natalie worked for a short time as Secretary for Dr. Alfred Ntoko, the then Dean of the College of Business at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. Chet was working at Red River Army Depot at the time that the new couple asked for reassignment to Houston, TX to follow Chet's mother, Bebe, to M.D. Anderson's Cancer Center. Chet took an assignment with the Department of Veteran Affairs in downtown Houston and Natalie accepted a position with Baylor College of Medicine's Office of General Counsel. Natalie and Chet were successful in getting pregnant with their son, Benjamin, however Bebe succumbed to her cancer and passed away before they were able to tell her that he would be a boy. In her memory, they named him Benjamin Blake, giving him the initials B. B., to honor his Nana Bebe, who was so excited to know that he was coming.
The Nichols's remained in Houston until several years later when they were expecting their 4th child, a daughter. Chet was transferred to Boise, ID's Department of Veteran Affairs Regional office. At this time, Natalie stayed home with her young children. It was in Idaho that NBC contacted Natalie about participating in their new program aimed at preventing and reducing the rate of teen pregnancy. Natalie and Chet agreed to be a part of the program, along with their youngest 2 children. The family had the honor of impacting numerous teens and their families from all across the country. They were able to speak directly to young girls who might be considering taking the path that Natalie took, and urge them to make wiser choices. Natalie also worked as the Executive Assistant for the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and legal department of Bodybuilding.com in Meridian, ID. The family was transferred once more by the Department of Veteran Affairs to Salt Lake City, UT. They remained there for a little over a year before deciding that they had moved enough and would permanently plant their roots in Texarkana, TX.
Natalie Nichols has not always been politically involved. She bought into the assumption that so many hold which says that those who are elected are there for a reason and will always do their best to represent us. She naively believed that because Texas is generally a Republican state, and the Republican platform aligns itself with her views, that her lone vote didn't matter. In the 2008 election cycle, Natalie realized the error of her ways. She was inspired by hearing Sarah Palin's Vice Presidential Nomination Acceptance Speech. It wasn't necessarily the woman speaking, although Natalie is a fan of Palin's, but instead it was the idea that there were, in fact, women out there somewhere who held the same beliefs and values that Natalie had and weren't apologetic about them. The idea that women like herself existed, and were proud of their beliefs, not hiding them, was enough to foster a passion for politics in Natalie that she never expected.
Natalie has since spoken with numerous patriots all across the country, including some within the Republican Party establishment. She frequently complains about the lack of integrity in our politicians and hears a familiar phrase: That's just politics. Claims are repeatedly made that politicians oftentimes say things on the campaign trail that they never intend to follow through with, and that it is just part of the way it is done. Natalie has a problem with that. She has come to the realization that "that's just politics" because WE have allowed it to go on for so long. Natalie understands that politicians lack political integrity because WE THE PEOPLE do not demand it. We hope for it, and we ask for it, but we do not refuse to accept less. Nichols sees a need for local citizens to volunteer for local offices. She believes that we have a duty to work hard to elect those in our community who truly value honesty, openness, and above all, integrity. Natalie was asked to run for local office by various members of the community who also see a need to elect strong, principled, conservative leaders to Bowie County offices. She talked it over with her friends and family and decided that an old saying applies: "If not you, then who? If not now, then when?" Natalie is honored to use her strong conservative principles to run as your County Clerk. Natalie Nichols is not a current employee of Bowie County and is not a part of any established political machine. Although Natalie is a Conservative Republican, she considers herself to be a Christian-American above all. She is not owing to anyone but God, her family, and the people of Bowie County.
Natalie intends to be the people of Bowie County's voice, she will not impose any agenda or personal views on the office. She sees the Bowie County Clerk's office as a portal of information for our citizens, not the gatekeeper of information. She will work diligently to provide excellent customer service. She will save you time, money, and frustration while maximizing profits for Bowie County, and in turn the people of Bowie County. Natalie knows full well that you, the people, will be her boss and that her duty will be to each of you. You have busy lives with your work, family, and recreation. The Bowie County Clerk's office should be a bastion of convenience, not a source of frustration. Under Natalie Nichols's guidance, the Bowie County Clerk's office will provide you with the information you need and provide you with every resource available.
